DESCRIPTION:The Evolution of Cars\nEver since Henry Ford’s Model T revolutionized how the world thought about mass transit\, America has been captivated by automobiles. Hear from one of the lead authors on a recent study done by a UCLA-led team of researchers\, which took a unique approach to explain the way in which technologies evolve in modern society. Borrowing a technique that biologists might use to study the evolution of plants or animals\, the scientists plotted the “births” and “deaths” of every American-made car and truck model from 1896 to 2014. \nAbout Erik Gjesfjeld\nErik Gjesfjeld is a post-doctoral Fellow at the Institute of Society and Genetics at UCLA.  He earned is PhD from the University of Washington in 2014.  Dr. Gjesfjeld received master’s degrees in Theoretical Archaeology and Field and Analytical Techniques in Archaeology\, with distinction\, at the Institute of Archaeology\, University College London.
