DESCRIPTION:Please join the Chancellor’s Society and fellow UCLA alumni\, parents\, and friends for an exclusive reception and presentation featuring special guest: \nLaura Wray-Lake \nProfessor of Social Welfare\nUCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs \nHow Young People Become Changemakers \nYoung people have abundant potential to act as positive change agents and address society’s problems locally\, nationally\, and globally. Today’s youth are rapidly reimagining what it means to be civically engaged. They have led movements from Black Lives Matter to March for our Lives to Fridays for Future\, and they create change in big and small ways to improve society and advance equity and justice. Yet\, young people do not become changemakers overnight. Professor Wray-Lake will highlight how families\, schools\, and communities support young people’s development into changemakers and how\, knowingly and unknowingly\, adults create major barriers to youth civic engagement. It is time to consider youth as leaders and how we can follow or get out of the way.
